Biromsoft LinkDetector is a lightweight tool designed to scan sites, find dead links, and help you fix them quickly. This quick guide walks you through setup, scanning, interpreting results, and best practices for resolving broken links.

What Biromsoft LinkDetector does

  • Crawls webpages and follows internal and external links.
  • Detects HTTP errors (e.g., 404, 500), timeouts, and redirects.
  • Generates a report listing broken links with source pages.
  • Optionally exports results to CSV for further analysis.

Step 1 Install and open LinkDetector

  1. Download the installer from Biromsoft’s official site and run it.
  2. On first launch, allow any requested permissions for network access.
  3. Enter your license key if prompted; a free/trial mode may be available.

Step 2 Configure a scan

  1. Set the start URL: Enter your site’s homepage or a specific subfolder to scan.
  2. Scope: Choose whether to scan only internal links or include external links.
  3. Depth: Set crawl depth (e.g., 1–3). Higher depth finds deeper pages but increases time.
  4. Robots.txt and sitemaps: Enable respecting robots.txt and optionally upload a sitemap to guide the crawler.
  5. Concurrency and timeouts: Increase concurrency for faster scans, but lower it if your server rate-limits requests; set a reasonable timeout (10–30s) to catch slow responses.

Step 3 Run the scan

  1. Click “Start Scan.”
  2. Monitor progress: LinkDetector shows scanned pages, found links, and error counts in real time.
  3. Pause or stop if you need to change settings.

Step 4 Review results

  • Broken links list: Filter by status code (404, 500), type (internal/external), or URL.
  • Source pages: For each broken link, view the page(s) where it appears so you can edit them.
  • Response details: See HTTP status, redirect chain, server response time, and error messages.
  • Export: Export to CSV to share with teammates or import into a bug tracker.
